        • Limit "Breaking News" to stories within 2 hours

News should be updated throughout the day, so that stories that were "breaking" at 10 am appear in the main body of the page when you check the page at 3pm. Don't create one long scroll of news that happened that day, just news that happened within the past hour or so.

          • Refine the "news" heading

Shouldn't most things in the paper be "news"? I never know where to look for stories - "home" "breaking news" "local" or "news." It's too many headings. Perhaps you can have a National/World news tab and a Local news tab.

            • Fully develop the Photo section in the final rollout (get it...DEVELOP...ha)

I love the new design. Very clean. Like the color-coding and how it's segmented with thin grey lines. Very organized. I also love that there's a dedicated photo section in the main header. You guys have some of the best photographers in the business, and it will encourage more people to appreciate their work.

              • Frame the content in the center by putting something in the left margin

i like the design overall, but it seems that something needs to be in the margin of the left side to kind of frame in the news stories -- could be a minor detail like a thin line or shading or a larger heading that runs vertically up and down the left margin? also, post gazette header at the top could be larger, more noticeable (right now, the ads appear more noticeable to me). thanks!

Remove the x option from the drop down box since it doesn't work. If a user clicks on it, the section is still expanded until the user moves their mouse away from that section.

                  • shading and boxes

You should shade the sections so that the users know when one section ends and another one starts. Since the section sizes vary so greatly, it is not easy to determine when/where the section ends. Shading the boxes - or allowing the borders to be the color of the actual subsection - would be better visually.

Also, I would combine the AP section into one large area. Right now, you have AP Sports and AP News, etc. Placing them into one large grouping will give the viewer a better idea that they are from the same source. The section could…

                      • home page is really cumbersome.

reduce the scrollling on the homepage. seems very cumbersome. maybe i'm just used to the current site...but things seem hard to find and the order of things is odd. why is local news above business news? will you be able to customize?

                        • rethink

I prefer to look at the breaking news stories, but I just don't like the visual appearance of them on the right side. We are hardwired to read right to left and top to bottom and it seems as though the breaking news would be something that would be read first. So, the flow just did not seem right...

                            • Tabbed links for different secions.

This suggestion is similar to what you already have. I like being able to drag my mouse icon over sports and then under sports being able to select Steelers, Penguins, etc... Rather than having to click sports and waiting for that page to load and then looking for the section I want to select (like the Pens or Steelers) and waiting for it to load. That's how the Trib's page is and I dislike it.

It is nice to have twitter embedded on your page. I do not think that it should be on the "front" page of the website though. PG is a place where people come to get a reliable sorce, not the opinions and rants of some person on twitter.

                                  • create a fluid layout for larger screen resolution

You can push your advertising to the fringe of the page for users that have wider screen resolutions. This will give you the real estate to move your content up "above the fold."

                                    • The "back and forth" nature of the stories hurts my eyes

When looking at one of the subsections (i.e. sports), each of the sections alternates from the left of the screen to the right and the bold color headings makes it difficult to sort through. In addition, the overabundance of ads scattered all over the page makes for difficult navigation.
